Ideas on reconfiguring
canopies (118xx series) to most easily fit
large ornamental chain (like 1310x)
As an example, we took canopy 11802U and
chain 13104,
and a group of hooks and loops which all happen
to be of unfinished (raw) brass.
All photos below are clickable to bring up an enlargement.
 
The 11802 canopy comes
pre-assembled with a
strap and 3/8" allthread (=1/8IP) and a rather lightweight loop.
To adapt this for a heavier ornamental or
mission chain, the lightweight loop can
easily be unscrewed
and replaced with other combinations of loops or hooks.
The simplest
solution, is to remove the existing loop and replace it with a heavier weight
hook:

Just a little
more complicated would be to use the large S-hook in combination with
a heavier loop. We chose loops 10968U (medium weight), 20848U (heavy
weight) and 10972U (ornamental)
Here as example is the chain
13104 with the S-Hook ER929U, and heavy loop 20848U on the canopy
*note, this particular loop has a larger thread size (1/4IP or 1/2") and was
reduced with an EY917 reducer

Using this
particular chain and some others, where the links are split and not soldered
(see descriptions for each individual chain)
the chain may easily be attached directly to the loop as shown below.
For soldered chain, the link would need to be cut first, and sometimes
re-soldered.

Please
note:
The
solid brass chains are for decorative purposes only. While lending itself to
casting detail, solid brass is a softer material than steel. For
the protection of property and personal safety, we strongly recommend the use
of a backup steel cable with
solid brass chains or a steel chain to support t`he weight of heavy chandeliers.
Also: The 11802 canopy
comes with a 1/8IP (3/8") all-thread and strap. For heavier
applications, the hole could be drilled to accept a larger 1/4IP (1/2")
thread. For the heaviest mounts we recommend the
CC-series canopies with loops that
accept 3/8IP (5/8") thread.
